Country's fuel supplies run low as refinery workers join strike

Scattered fuel shortages rattled drivers and businesses across France on Saturday, as tens of thousands marched for the fifth time in a month to protest President Nicolas Sarkozy's plan to raise the retirement age to 62.

Frequent strikes in the last few weeks have hobbled French trains and airports, closed schools and docks, and left garbage piling up in the southern port of Marseille.

But now the airline industry is getting worried, after all of France's 12 fuel-producing refineries went on strike and many depots were being blocked by protesters. Link

This is something that America's Ring-wing should be watching, because they want to kill Social Security all together.  They are willing to do it with a thousand cuts, but that's their goal.  The Republican Party has opposed Social Security from the beginning.  For the rich, there is no need of such things and might even seem unnecessary, but to the rest of us it and Medicare is the only hope.  That is not so for the Republican Party, they want to dismantle the two by first raising the age to 75 and then privatizing, which will take our money and give it to the rich.  Americans need to be ready to shut the Nation down just like the French if the Republicans ever try to make their dreams come true.

There is a reason that the Republican Party won't come right out and say they want to abolish Social Security, they know that the mass majority of Americans support it, even the rank and file Republicans.  The fact is that we need both Social Security and Medicare, maybe the top 3% don't, but the rest of us do.  The alternative is to work until we die without any safety net.  There is very little problems with Social Security as it is which can't be reversed by simply removing the cap on the Social Security tax so that every dollar earned is subjected to the tax.  In that way there will be more than enough money.  Then we should start talking about lowering the age of retirement rather than raising that age.  If everyone could retire at age 55 there would be enough job openings to give us full employment.  People would be able to enjoy their later years as they should.  I know some will try to say that this would break Social Security but not if we remove the cap.  Of course, anyone who says they don't believe in this doesn't have to retire, they can work until they die, but we know that they won't.

I remember when Bush said in a state of the Union speech that we needed to privatize Social Security that the Democrats made it known that it never would happen.  Republicans want to dismantle all of the New Deal, if they try they will see what real grass root riots are like.  There is no way on God's green earth that we will ever let that happen!
